Imagine, 150 years in the future. Climate change has been solved and we live together in a world as one nation. The study of archeology has turned to exploring the ocean’s depths in an effort to better understand the carelessness of the early millennium. Amongst the junk and ancient treasure, one archeologist discovers two people who have been hiding in an underwater bunker for over 60 years. Grab a VR headset and dive into this immersive, hopeful comedy that is part performance, part virtual reality and explore deep underwater and far into the future. Watch the video.
Underwater Archaeologist is co-created by Sherry J Yoon (Director) and Jay Dodge (Writer/Performer), for Vancouver’s Boca del Lupo.
“Underwater Archeologist is about engaging our imagination toward creating a better future. If we look back 150 years and consider how far we’ve come since then, yes in technology and science but also ethically – even as we see some backward steps in the news, if we look over bigger periods of time, humanity consistently makes choices to be more open, inclusive and supportive of each other in the long run–that’s hopeful and ultimately that’s what UA is all about”
Jay Dodge
Underwater Archeologist is part of Boca del Lupo’s LivePerformance360, an innovative theatre series curated by Sherry J Yoon, Artistic Director, with guest curator Jo Mangan, CEO of Ireland’s Performance Corporation. LP360 investigates the intersections of live performance and immersive technology including commissioning content created by performing artists for audiences, promoting 360 video as a powerful tool connecting festival presenters and touring artists, and exploring the dynamic possibilities for VR as an avenue for access to live performance for individuals in remote communities and/or with other circumstances that may impede their ability to attend a live event.
